Even
if you, dear homeowner, give license to some of these microaggressions, think
about your guests! They may not be used to your idiosyncrasies.
They may not
want to entertain the multiple subconscious
motivations behind these distortions. You have become used
to them by now, but remember, when they rear their ugly head, what
psychic molestations occur! Even in the most successful situations,
we must remember that our guests are in this state of “insecurity
of dislocation”. A
micro-aggression
can most definitely have an
adverse effect. And this is the last thing we want! We want them to be
thinking only of our good taste; our carefully accumulated art collection,
our fine linens, dishes, and furnishings. We are constructing a
narrative of the well-lived life! When the guest is distracted, trying to find
a mislocated towel or stubbing their toe on a bulky threshold they will
be silently cursing you instead of flowing effortlessly through your elegantly constructed domicile.
